About Nina

MY BACKGROUND

I grew up between Sapporo, Japan and Portland, Oregon and found that I didn't see myself represented onstage or in film at a very young age, and continued to struggle to see myself even into adulthood living in Seattle, Washington.

I'm here to help that change.

I identify as a proud nonbinary, queer, mixed-race, Japanese-American and I support and contribute to the uplifting of minority stories. Both onstage, and in the classroom as an artist and educator.

Education philosophy

Education is an individual, unique experience for every student and every teacher needs to come into the room with empathy and mutual respect. Academic learning must begin with inspiration and motivation. Students deserve an educator's passion for learning and responsibility for intelligent inquiry and discovery. Students of all backgrounds should be represented in the materials and be presented an opportunity to create their own stories and let their lives inform their work.
